Update(11/17); it has been a wonderful experience getting attention from a skilled & caring physician.
Dr. Gowda should not be practicing in the field of psychiatry. Aside from his condescending attitude and his incessant eating during appointments with clients, he does not do what is best for, or even necessary for his clients. I just moved to the area with my husband who is transitioning to the FAA after serving 10 years in the US Navy. I have been on the same medication for 6 years and have had successful treatment for adult ADD with this medication. On my initial visit, Dr. Gowda told me that I did not have ADD, that it was a belief. This statement was made based on. ...? He did not evaluate me, but made a decision based on a 3 minute conversation with him. He then said he would not continue the medication management plan that I had been on for 6 years because he did not believe I had ADD... (why? Because I had been successful in school and my career for the past 6 years? Surely a successful woman couldn't have ADD...) I explained to him that I had been evaluated by psychiatrists several times throughout the history of my treatment, and with the help of the medication, I was able to function on a normal level. If he were to cut off my medication, my overall state of being would suffer severely. If you've ever been on a medication for years and have gone a day without it, especially ADD medication, you know that the withdrawal effects are quite debilitating for an extended time. I am a 30 year old elementary school teacher, but he continually insinuated that I was using drugs (specifically pain medication and marijuana). After much convincing, extreme condescension from Gowda, and a drug test, he agreed to give me month of medication. I was grateful until I went to get it filled and it turned out to be a quarter of my original dosage, and it was extended release. Feeling desperate and overwhelmed, I decided to try it. Immediately, my physiology wasn't tolerating this medication. When I called Gowda, his response was, "there is nothing I am going to do". I called the office and informed them that I would be reporting Gowda to the NJ Health Department.
I have been greatly helped by this skilled psychopharmacologist.. he does not give out controlled substances unnecessarily(ppl get upset & leave bad reviews).
I have found Dr. Gowda, to be an excellent physician, who always seems to be patient oriented; easy to speak with as well as understand; with an exceptional, friendly, courteous office staff. Dr. Gowda has a highly knowledgeable, professional and friendly demeanor, and after several visits, the overall high and consistent quality of care & concern has been such, that I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Gowda to anyone who would need his highly skilled services.
I've been going to Dr. Gowda for almost 10 years. Since my first visit it's done nothing but help improve my life. I went to him a broken soul. Honestly, at the end of my rope. It took years to get my medication right. I definitely wasn't a quick fix like I thought it would be. I just recently celebrated 10 years clean, and definitely wouldn't have made it without Dr. Gowda.
I actually used to work for this guy and he is sexist to the extreme. At the end of each business day, I would take the days messages, along with patient charts, to his office. He would write notes in the charts and then instead of handing me the chart back, because I am standing right next to him, he would toss it on the floor at my feet. He talks down to women any chance he gets. He also talks badly about his patients and acts like they are an inconvenience to him, even though their problems are what pays his bills.
I have been with Dr Gowda for years. We have had our ups and downs but he always worked to help me find balance. I'm happy and healthy. I could not have reached this state without him. Thank You for your dedication and persistence in working with me.
